Parish Council vacancy - election called
From the clerk:
“Following the notice of vacancy which was published on 11 May 2020, I write to let you know that we have received sufficient requests for an election to be held.
Under the Coronavirus regulations, the date for this election will be 6 May 2021 unless the Government allow it to be conducted at an earlier stage. Should we be able to conduct the election earlier than 6 May, we will advise you of the date.
Once the election date is confirmed, the process begins with the Notice of Election which is published around 7 weeks before election day. Anyone wishing to stand as a candidate at the election will then need to submit a nomination paper to this office. Full details, dates and copies of the nomination paper will be available just before the notice of election is published.
If 2 or more candidates stand, an election will be held. If there are 2 candidates, they will be elected without a poll. If fewer than 2 stand, they will be elected without a poll and a further election will be called for the remaining vacancy.
In the meantime, the 3 remaining councillors remain quorate and can continue with Parish Council business as required.”

Cold Aston Tree Survey (allotments and the sycamore on the green)
The council instructed a survey (which is an obligation every 5 years) on the health and safety of the trees at the allotments for which the Parish Council is responsible. The report can be seen here (opens in a new window).
No work will be undertaken without an opportunity for discussion with parishioners when the current Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. Once any work is agreed, the necessary planning permission will be sought. Council is aware of the need to wait until the winter before any work can be carried out in order to protect nesting birds and other wildlife.

Does your neighbour need your help? It is important that we do all we can to help those in our communities that are likely to become more isolated while measures are in place to delay the spread of Covid-19.
There are some simple, but effective things we can all do to help:
There are some simple, but effective things we can all do to help:
- Making sure they have enough food and other general supplies to cover a few days - there is no need to panic buy
- Walking their dog, picking up a prescription, putting out their bins, taking in a parcel
- Phoning, Skyping or Facetime them so they can see a friendly face, helping to reduce their isolation
- Sharing child care or other caring responsibilities
- Checking if any of their planned appointments have been cancelled before they travel
- Making sure they have some simple recipes to hand if they are not the normal cook or that they have done some batch cooking for the freezer
